Bishop Educational Gardens Volunteer – FREE Individual Membership
- Any individual who volunteers 20 hours in the previous year will receive the current year Individual membership FREE! (Lilyfest hours are NOT included in these hours). Volunteer hours may be logged from spring and fall work days, Trail Maintenance, Garlic Mustard & Invasive Species Control days, Garden Maintenance, Volunteer Presenters/Speaker and any other special projects that volunteers are utilized.
Since 2008 Bishop Educational Gardens has been a “By Appointment Only” site to protect the flora and fauna as well as the privacy of the onsite resident. In July of 2023 Bishop Educational Gardens will become a Membership Site. By implementing this program we will be able to increase access to the public, share the beauty and natural wonder of this site, protect the flora and fauna, as well as provide a level of security to the residents. Patrons with a membership will receive the following benefits:
Benefits of Membership
- Access to Bishop Educational Gardens year round*
- FREE or DISCOUNTED workshops and programs. Individuals without memberships will be able to register and attend workshops but will be responsible for the all fees in their entirety associated with those programs. Occasionally a FREE & OPEN to the general public program may be provided.
- Members will be able to hike the trail, stroll through the gardens and experience all the gardens have to offer without the crowds of many of the other sites in the Hocking Hills Region that are open to the general public. Hours may change with the season. Visit www.hswcd.com for current hours of operation.
- Pets are allowed throughout the year EXCEPT during the week before and the weekend of Lilyfest. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED DURING THIS TIME PERIOD IN THE GARDENS. Lilyfest is always the second FULL weekend in July. Pets MUST BE ON LEASH at all times. Dog waste must be picked up and carried out to appropriate receptacle. The residents on site have canine friends too.
- Memberships will be issued via email with yearly dates on them. Printed and Digital versions will be accepted on site.
- Renewal reminders will be sent out at the end of each year. Memberships are annual and run from July 1 – June 30 regardless of time of year purchased.
Membership funds support education and outreach opportunities.

Special Considerations of Memberships
Memberships are NON-TRANSFERABLE
*For the safety of our visitors, the Gardens may be closed at special times of the year due to deer gun seasons, weather related events & special maintenance days. (I.e. tree work or construction). Please check the website and Facebook Page for any closures or special messaging before visiting.
Note that occasionally educational programs or events may be occurring during your visit.
Membership does not allow for members to hold private events at Bishop Educational Garden’s property without prior approval or permission of Bishop Educational Gardens/Hocking SWCD staff and may include additional fees.
Membership fees may be sent to: Hocking Soil & Water Conservation District, 148 N. Homer Ave., Logan Ohio 43138. Checks should be made out to Hocking SWCD with “BEG Membership” in the Memo. Membership is annual and runs from July 1 - June 30.
Individuals without a Bishop Educational Gardens Membership may attend workshops that are available, but will be responsible for all fees associated with that event.
Membership fees support education, outreach & projects for Bishop Educational Gardens ONLY! Fees do not support the wages, salaries, and benefits of employees or other Hocking SWCD projects unrelated to Bishop Educational Gardens.
